Our Mini-Dachshunds
My Dachshund's fall into the Karninchen size catagory- which is German for Rabbit as they were bred to hunt and chase rabbits down the holes. They are around five pounds. There are three sizes to Dachshunds, Standard, Miniature and Kaninchen. Standard: Chest girth of at least 13.75 inches, maximum weight of 20 lbs. Miniature: Chest girth of 11.75 to 13.75 inches maximum weight 12 pounds. Kaninchen: Chest girth smaller than 11.75 inches.
